PRESS RELEASE

NJ Attorney General Jennifer Davenport to Give Keynote Speech at World Cup Action Collaborative Against Trafficking at Kean University on May 30.

The keynote speech on Day 1 of World Cup Action Collaborative against Trafficking (World Cup ACT) will be given by NJ Attorney General Jennifer Davenport. The survivor-led weekend of action has been organized by the New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking (NJCAHT), with Day 1 taking place at Kean University in Union on Saturday, May 30 from 8:30am-5:00pm and Day 2 taking place in Camden County.

With the FIFA 2026 World Cup beginning in June, the NJCAHT and its Survivor Leader Advisory Council has devised an engaging way for the public to understand more about human trafficking and be empowered to act against it using survivor informed and trauma informed techniques and language.

Large sporting events like the World Cup draw huge crowds which in turn cause there to be an increase in demand for sex and cheap labor, driving up incidents of human trafficking, where force, fraud or coercion are used upon people to compel them to work for little or no money.

The event is recommended for those 13 and older, with Day 1 at Kean University offering trainings and actions such as crafts, self-care, social media projects, and the chance to hear from Survivor Leaders in smaller groups. There is also an opportunity to participate in an outreach to 150 hotels and motels in Union, Essex, Hudson and Bergen Counties, in partnership with the SOAP Project.

The Survivor Leader team has been led by Author, Speaker and Consultant, Gina Cavallo, who is also the Vice-President of the NJCAHT. Gina says this is a crucial time to act: “This moment is a powerful opportunity for communities to come together in prevention, awareness, and protection. Human trafficking thrives in silence and vulnerability, but when organizations, survivor leaders, law enforcement, and the public unite, we create safer spaces and stronger communities. World Cup ACT is about being proactive, informed, and ready to protect the vulnerable.”
